Keep your good cholesterol levels up for good health
Your body produces two types of cholesterol: HDL and LDL. Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) make up the cholesterol commonly associated with heart disease. High-density lipoproteins (HDL) make up the good cholesterol, the cholesterol that aids your body in retaining the right fats needed for cellular growth, brain and liver function and overall good health.
Healthy HDL levels should be between 45 and 50 for men and up to 60 for women. If you're working to lower your LDL levels, you may be lowering your HDL levels as well. If your HDL levels have dropped as a result of lowering your bad cholesterol, you can raise those levels without raising your bad cholesterol count.
