What is Multiple Sclerosis?

Being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis can be a long and frustrating process. Multiple sclerosis is an elusive auto-immune disorder. The myelin insulation of the spinal cord, which is like a covering or coating, is being broken down. The body thinks it's a virus and attacks it. It leaves holes or spaces in the covering and in effect, the person is cross-wired.
Symptoms vary from person to person and range from dizziness, weakness, fatigue, bowel problems, vision loss, hearing loss, numbness in hands and feet to rigidity in arms and legs. No one person will have the same symptoms because the covering or coating on the spine will be absent in different places on each person. Being mis-diagnosed or undiagnosed is common because all these symptoms can mimic other diseases. The causes of multiple sclerosis are still unknown.
