The liver is a large reddish-brown glandular organ located in the upper right portion of the abdominal cavity of human body. It performs many functions vital for human life and any injury or disease to this organ may result in severe illnesses. A liver disease refers to any kind of hepatic disorder which may cause damage to the liver structure or disrupt any of its functions.

A liver disease can be a serious and potentially life threatening ailment, so its timely diagnosis and treatment is of paramount importance. The risk of contracting liver diseases can be lowered by good hygiene, weight loss, giving up alcohol, choosing a healthy diet, exercising regularly, getting vaccines against hepatitis and avoiding drugs and over-the-counter medications that put extra stress on the liver.
